Since 2008, Bob Chapman has been the host of the weekly WCPE Opera House and Thursday night host of Music in the Night. An operatic bass-baritone and retired music librarian, Bob brings a wealth of expertise and linguistic skills to both shows. He and his wife Mary Lovelock live in Raleigh’s Historic Oakwood neighborhood in an 1888 bungalow with their lovable Labrador retriever Miss Molly. Bob’s recent operatic roles have included the Commendatore in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Skeeter (Simone) in a “redneck” adaptation of Puccini’s Gianni Schicci, Der Sprecher in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Der Lautsprecher in Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis. At Duke and NC State he teaches opera courses. Students of historic ballroom dance from the Victorian, Ragtime and Swing eras, the “Chaplocks” have waltzed, fox-trotted and swung in the mansions of Newport, aboard the HMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island, and in ballrooms in Paris, Prague and Vienna.

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and lends to all that is good and just and beautiful." —Plato
